Celebrating the dead, honoring the ancestors
Dia de Muertos, originally a Mexican holiday, is well known to, but often misunderstood by, a large number of Americans. As it has traveled northward from
its origin, traditions have evolved, or been added or removed. Rituals sometimes take on a new meaning. This portfolio studies the history of the holiday, the changes made as it traveled to
other countries, and how celebrations today differ from (or remain true to) the celebrations of the past.
